Seeking Ruby on Rails Developer: Work from Home - (NYC) New York City

Overview of Position

Varsity Tutors, a national leader and one of the fastest growing companies in education, is seeking talented Ruby on Rails Developers to help us dramatically scale our digital learning tools and global education platform. We operate a curated marketplace for high-quality tutors, mobile learning apps, online tutoring environments, and other academic and test prep-focused technologies. We facilitate education services nationally and have over 12,000 tutors in our marketplace. Our company has grown rapidly over the last few years and we promote a fun, collaborative work environment. The Rails Developer will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer and be involved in strategic and operational technology decisions.

The Rails Developer will receive a competitive salary, healthcare, $2,000 technology allowance (for a laptop, iPhone, scanner, iPad, etc), 52 free hours of tutoring per year (Want to learn Italian before that upcoming trip to Italy? Use one of our talented Italian tutors for free), and a group of passionate colleagues with whom they will work to scale Varsity Tutors' platform and tools.
Qualifications

3+ years of experience in the Ruby on Rails ecosystem
Experience with the Rails 3.x framework
5+ years of experience with relational databases
Experience w/ testing tools & frameworks (MiniTest, Capybara, PhantomJS)
Experience with Ruby 1.9.x
Experience working with JSON, REST, XML-RPC
In depth knowledge of jQuery
Experienced with Git
Proven experience working with and scaling high-traffic applications
Experience with NoSQL databases (Redis, MongoDB etc)
Experience with caching systems (Memcached, Elasticache, Cloudfront)
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or related field) *or* a resume that will really impress us (past work, open source projects etc.)
Pluses
Hands-on experience with Rails framework upgrades (major and minor upgrades)
Hands-on experience with Ruby language upgrades
Experience with Ruby 2.0.x and Rails 4.x
Experience with Puma and Unicorn
Understand AB Testing
Worked with cloud technologies (Amazon services, Engine Yard, OpenStack)
High speed Internet access (15+ MBPS)
