Hiring Network Architect @ The New School (Union Square, Manhattan, NYC) New York City

The New School seeks a results oriented Network Engineer with a strong emphasis on Cisco technologies to play a major role in the implementation and ongoing support of a complex network environment. The successful candidate will work with the Integrated Communications group on a variety of tasks including network architecture and design, implementation and troubleshooting. The candidate must possess very strong, hands on knowledge of Cisco products, including switches, routers, firewalls and VPNs. This is a position for a seasoned, skilled engineer.

Responsibilities:
● Work with group in ongoing design, implementation and maintenance of large, multivendor network environment, with particular emphasis on Cisco networking products and technologies.
● Coordinate with both networking and security management on ongoing network security initiatives.
● Plan and implement new network installations and upgrades.
● Provide Level 3 technical support to the University Help Desk.

Minimum Qualifications:
● Expert, hands on understanding of Cisco products including switches, routers, firewalls and VPNs. Hands on experience with Nexus is also required.
● Work with all levels of Cisco routers and switches, including Nexus product line.
● Demonstrated knowledge of networking protocols and technologies including EIGRP, BGP, VTP, RADIUS, IPSEC, SSH, etc.
● Solid understanding of all OSI layers in a complex environment, particularly Layer 2 and Layer 3.
● Expertise caliber network design and architecture skills.
● Must understand campus area networking, intrabuilding networks, data center networks, etc.
● Ability to see a network project through from start to finish, including analysis, design, planning, testing and implementation.
● Strong ability to troubleshoot network related problems in a large environment.
● Hands on disaster and continuity planning related to networking architecture design and implementation.
● Ability to work in a strong team environment as well as independently as the need arises.
● Demonstrated expertise in analyzing and solving complex technical problems.
● Good verbal and written communication skills.
● Ability to work with Visio.
● Occasional weekend, early morning and evening work.

Preferred Qualifications:
● Knowledge of DWDM fiber networking; hands on experience preferred.
● Working knowledge of wireless technologies and implementations, particularly in an Aruba wireless environment.
● Hands on experience with Cisco VoIP technology, including troubleshooting VoIP related network issues.
● Experience with Juniper security products, including firewalls and VPN appliances.
● Experience with F5 load balancing switches.
● Knowledge of network management and monitoring tools, such as Cisco LMS (CiscoWorks), OpenView, SolarWinds, etc.
● Knowledge and experience with IPv6 preferred.
