System Administrator wanted.

compensation: 65,000-75,000 commensurate with experience

The System Administrator's role is to design, install, administer, and optimize company servers, network and related components to achieve high performance and stability of the various business applications. This includes ensuring the high availability of client/server applications, developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the server and network environment as well as designing, implementing and maintaining appropriate backup systems. This individual will participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual will ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, volunteers, and Partners.

Responsibilities

• Manage enterprise directory services and supporting server infrastructure.
• Perform file system configuration and management; define and perform server backups and recovery procedures.
• Check help desk database for entries on server and server resource issues; prioritize and respond to help desk tickets as appropriate.
• Plan and implement server upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patches.
• Recommend and execute modifications to server environment in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
• Develop strategies for client/server implementations; architect the infrastructure required to support those strategies.
• Design and review of new server systems, applications, and hardware; conduct capacity planning as needed.
• Establish and implement policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure server security.
• Conduct research on server hardware, software, and protocols in support of procurement and development efforts.
• Serve as cornerstone for escalating server issues; provide timely response to customer escalations.
• Monitor and test system performance and provide performance statistics and reports.
• Develop and maintain training materials and server documentation.
• Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.
• Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
• Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.

Position Requirements

Formal Education & Certification
• University degree in the field of computer science or management information systems or a related discipline.
• Industry related Certifications.

Knowledge & Experience
• At least five years' equivalent work experience in a senior technical analytical position responsible for managing network and server environments.
• Advanced knowledge of the Windows Server Platforms (AD, File Server, DNS, SQL and IIS)
• Advanced knowledge of the Cloud Based Platforms (Google Apps and Office 365)
• Strong knowledge installing, configuring, and maintaining all manners of server hardware and associated network equipment, including iSCSI, RAID, and I/O topology.
• Advance knowledge of the VM infrastructure.
• Experience with server performance tuning and monitoring tools.
• Strong knowledge with network protocols, firewall management, and operating system configuration.
• Strong knowledge of storage technologies such as SAN, NAS, as well as Active Directory/Global Catalogue.

Work Conditions

• Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends, sometimes with little advanced notice.
• Sitting for extended periods of time.
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computer components.
• Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and servers.
