Seeking System Administrator, The Juilliard School - (Upper West Side, NYC) New York City

Description: The Server Administrator configures, installs, monitors, secures and supports the Juilliard School's heterogeneous server infrastructure; assists with ensuring the availability of client/server applications, web applications and developing processes and procedures for the ongoing management of the server environment; assists in overseeing the physical security, integrity, and safety of the data center and both physical and virtual servers; and diagnoses, resolves, and documents hardware and software network issues in a timely and accurate fashion.

Responsibilities:
• Manage installed Windows, Linux and UNIX servers both onsite and offsite
• Monitor and tune the servers for optimum performance
• Ensure an appropriate level of security for all servers and the information stored on them
• Manage ongoing vulnerability assessments using the Nessus tool and take appropriate remedial steps in response to periodic vulnerability scans
• Manage key aspects of Juilliard's web hosting infrastructure both in-house and AWS (Amazon Web Services)
• Manage a Solaris data storage area network
• Manage the server backup and restore regime using the Symantec Backup Exec tool
• Manage the Vipre anti-virus and anti-malware solution suite
• Manage Juilliard I.T.'s digital certificate (SSL) resources
• Complete daily, weekly and monthly server management tasks to ensure optimal operation of Juilliard owned servers and the services they host
• Prepare and maintain appropriate documentation of these tasks associated with the ongoing operation of the servers
• Support the work of the web development team, providing full LAMP stack support and other web server technology support
• Assist in managing installed web and application servers including the Drupal CMS instances.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree
• Strong working experience with sever hardware and server operating systems
• Expert knowledge of Windows and Linux hardware/software issues
• Expert knowledge of on the Linux OS and managing Linux servers
• Expert knowledge of Active Directory and Windows domain management
• Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking and associated security protocols
• Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining all manners of server hardware and associated equipment
• Some familiarity with VMware virtual server environments
• Some familiarity with storage technologies
• Knowledgeable about MS SQL & MySQL database requirements for high availability, multi-function environments
• Solid knowledge of the LAMP stack and associated web server technologies
• Some knowledge of web hosting technologies including AWS (Amazon Web Services)
• Ability to document processes and procedures
• Excellent communications skills with an ability to interact with various members of the School community to easily and tactfully communicate technical ideas to non-technical end-users.
• The ability to self-manage multiple assigned projects or tasks in a deadline-driven environment
• Be a positive, self-assured team player
• Prior experience at educational institutions is a plus
