Linux Systems Engineer
An exciting opportunity to join a international team, during the rollout and launch of the US market expansion for a global weather technology company UBIMET. We rank among the leading weather service providers in Europe. International experts in the fields of meteorology, physics, biology and geography issue customized, individual and precise weather forecasts for over 2 million private and industrial customers in more than 10 countries. With offices in Germany, Australia, and headquarters in Austria, America is next on the list for expansion. The New York office is a start-up environment with rapid growth already in progress, and project-USA is full speed ahead. The company founders and shareholders (Red Bull) pursue the goal to be the weather service with the world's best quality forecasts. In order to service a rapidly growing client base, we are looking for highly skilled, motivated and technically experienced engineer to join the New York Infrastructure Team.
Linux Systems Engineer
Responsibilities:
• Effectively support Ubuntu Server environment with 100+ Physical & Virtual servers.
• Perform extensive troubleshooting and analysis on complex Linux systems.
• Ensure system availability and network functionality based on service level agreements (SLAs)
• Continually identify efficient solutions for systems, processes and procedures
• Monitor, archive and backup data sets
• Improve on the design and architecture of projects using expansive technology
Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor's degree or industry qualifications backed by commercial experience in server, network or storage systems.
• Strong Linux administration experience (Ubuntu/Debian preferred).
• Server virtualization experience -- VMware and Linux containers -- LXC, OpenVZ, KVM
• Experience in working with large application servers and storage platform technologies (SAN/NAS)
• Good knowledge of databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL or MongoDB)
• Scripting skills (Perl, PHP, Python, Bash)
• Experience with Linux software package management technologies such as dpkg, apt, etc.
• Experience with application and network monitoring systems such as Zabbix, syslog etc.
• Experience with configuration management systems such as Puppet, Foreman, etc.
• A solid understanding of IP networking and related technologies
• HPC and data center experience is a plus for this position
• Experience in deploying and supporting Cisco networking equipment (ASA/ASR, Nexus switches, etc.) would be an added bonus

• You may occasionally be asked for on-call duty during afterhours and/or weekends as needed and depending on the project.

This full time position that reports to the New York IT Manager.
