FREE Training & Driver's Ed leading to Careers in Cabling, Woodworking - (brooklyn, NYC) New York City

New York Drives is a FREE six week career training at Brooklyn Workforce Innovations (BWI) that combines drivers' education with job readiness training in order to connect low-income New Yorkers to increased employment and educational opportunities. Participants receive up to 30 hours of driving lessons, road test and 60 hours of professional development workshops. Upon completion of this training, participants are then eligible to continue onto one of our award-winning sector-based job training programs: Brooklyn Woods, Brooklyn Networks, and the "Made in NY" Production Assistant Training Program. In order to enroll into the New York Drives program, interested parties must meet the following requirements:
• At least 21 years old
• A NYC resident
• Legally eligible to work in the US
• Unemployed or Low Income
• Has a full-time availability (Mon-Fri from 9AM- 5PM)
• Interest in and qualify for one of BWI's 3 sector based training programs
• Must NOT have had a driver's license previously
• Ready to work once completing NYD and a training program
Brooklyn Woods is a full time training course for entry level custom woodworking techniques including the use of hand tools, power tools and woodworking machines. Graduates are prepared to build and install custom cabinets.
Brooklyn Networks is a full time training program that leads to an internationally recognized certification in low voltage cable installation. Graduates work installing telephone and computer lines, broadcast cable systems, home theaters and security systems.
**New York Drives serves a prerequisite for the above programs, since they require a valid driver's license or encourage applicants to have one. All programs include job placement assistance for 2 years**
How to apply:
Attend an information session on Thursdasy at 2PM sharp at 621 Degraw Street (between 3rd and 4th Aves), Brooklyn. There is no need to RSVP or to bring any documentation. Applicants can apply for the program after the Information Session has taken place Please note: latecomers will not be admitted. The next class will begin in mid May.
