Community Access, Inc. (CA) is a progressive not-for-profit organization that for the last 40 years has helped thousands of people diagnosed with psychiatric disabilities to make the transition from hospitals and shelters to independent living. Our primary mission is to identify needs and create solutions for homeless people with psychiatric disabilities. Our programs include over 1000 units of supportive housing in three boroughs, the Howie T. Harp Peer Advocacy Center, East Village Access--a PROS-licensed training program, and the Art Collective.

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of
HARM REDUCTION COORDINATOR
to work in our trainging department at 2 Washington Street, New York, NY and in our supportive housing program, Gouverneur Court, located at 621 Water Street, New York, NY.

Annual salary is 50k, plus an excellent benefits package.

Position Overview
The Harm Reduction Coordinator provides intra-agency consultation, training, and support to staff utilizing a harm reduction approach. The Harm Reduction Coordinator provides leadership for the Harm Reduction Committee in forwarding Community Access' commitment to implementing the harm reduction model. The Harm Reduction Coordinator provides direct services to program participants at Gouverneur Court, with a focus on supporting health and quality of life for individuals and the community.

Essential Job Functions
Serve on the Harm Reduction Committee in a leadership capacity:
Provide guidance, support, and management for projects and activities of the committee, with a focus on implementing the harm reduction model throughout the agency;
Schedule, facilitate, and document monthly committee meetings;
Provide technical assistance to Harm Reduction Specialists
Maintain a set schedule at Gouverneur Court, developing and providing outreach, engagement and harm reduction services to individuals in need of support, including individuals using drugs/alcohol, people living with HIV/AIDS, individuals involved in sex work/survival sex, people with diabetes, individuals at risk for violence, etc.
Provide recovery oriented services and outreach to assigned program participants at Gouverneur Court, as defined by program and contractual requirements
Maintain regular rotation at various agency sites for scheduled technical assistance sessions with program staff
Serve as an intra-agency trainer and resource in the Harm Reduction model for staff during manager meetings, core trainings, housing counselor and other trainings as needed
Develop agency curriculum, tools and resources to assist staff in various roles (e.g. service coordinators, managers and housing counselors) to utilize harm reduction principles and skills in their work
Serve as a resource for program specific and intra-agency consultation, education and support on the harm reduction model, including HIV prevention strategies, for staff and program participants
Develop and maintain relationships between Community Access and other agencies in New York City who are promoting harm reduction in their work
Raise agency awareness of current harm reduction policy and advocacy issues
Provide training on Community Access values and practice models, as needed

Job Qualifications
Have an understanding, appreciation, and commitment to the philosophy and mission of Community Access, with particular expertise in harm reduction and recovery oriented services
Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) - Bachelor's degree, preferred
Minimum 3 years' experience working within a harm reduction model (personal experience participating in harm reduction services may substitute for up to 1 year of work experience)
Commitment and ability to communicate and engage staff on implementation of CA values and practice model
Ability to transfer knowledge and skills in areas such as, but not limited to: engagement, developing a therapeutic alliance, harm reduction, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed services, cultural competence, conflict mediation

Ability to work in the field (using public transportation)
Must be fingerprinted and cleared by the New York State Justice Center
Bilingual Spanish-speaking, preferred; ability to speak other relevant languages, dependent upon specific needs of program participants
