Position Overview

Cadmus assists a wide variety of clients, from municipalities to major electric and gas utilities in assessing renewable energy projects, conducting feasibility and potential studies, evaluating incentive programs, conducting project due diligence, and providing other relevant technical expertise on a variety of renewable energy technologies. We are seeking a New York-based field engineer with expertise in solar photovoltaic (PV), solar thermal, and other distributed generation (DG) technologies. The ideal candidate will combine hands-on technical skills, excellent communication, and a focus on customer service. This position offers a mix of field and office time, with excellent potential for the right candidate to grow and take on greater responsibility.
Responsibilities
• Detailed, hands-on, inspections of solar PV installations from residential to utility scale (1kW-3MW). These inspections will require in-depth knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and best practices.
• Preparing written and database-oriented inspection reports with pertinent photographs, code citations, and actions required to ensure a safe and code-compliant PV installation
• Inspection of solar thermal, combined heat and power (CHP), small wind, and other DG technologies
• Analyzing trends in DG system performance and inspection results using MS Excel and/or database files
• Installing temporary monitoring equipment to collect data on energy consumption, generation, and environmental parameters relevant to renewable energy and energy efficiency projects
• Perform feasibility studies and conceptual design planning for DG projects
Requirements
At a minimum, candidates must meet the following criteria to be considered for this position:
• Excellent knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), as applied to DG systems
• NABCEP Certified PV Installer, licensed electrician, or 2-5 years of hands-on experience as a PV installer
• Proficient in relevant PV industry tools and software, including:
o Solmetric Suneye and/or Solar Pathfinder
o PVWatts, PVSyst, RETScreen, and/or System Advisor Model (SAM)
• Candidate must be willing and able to work on/around rooftops and on/around energized electrical equipment
Preferred
Candidates who demonstrate proficiency in other (non-PV) DG technologies and in lighting, HVAC, or other energy efficiency topics will be considered favorably for this position. Familiarity with mobile Apple/iOS based computing platforms and with Filemaker databases is also preferred.
Additional Info
This position is based in New York and will require frequent local travel. This is a full time position. Applicants interested in part-time employment will also be considered.
