The Role

The Creative Director will lead a team of user experience designers in creating powerful, consumer-focused, digital experiences across multiple devices within Synacor's product suite and will provide strategic and tactical insight while defining industry-leading practices including user research and analysis, interaction design, and usability. As a hands on leader for the design team, your responsibilities go far beyond simple aesthetics: you will coach both engineering, product and design to empathize with the user and build beautiful, usable experiences that make the ordinary seem extraordinary. You will define and lead the creative process from start to finish, own the responsibility for delivering the highest quality product with your team of talented designers, and be the design visionary for future Synacor products.

• Create an environment that fosters high quality creative output.
• Inspire this high performance team to continually come up with novel approaches to how content is discovered and watched.
• Define and improve the toolsets, processes and deliverables for all aspects of the UX/product design process including research, interaction/visual design, information architecture and testing
• Motivate others to push boundaries to invent new solutions to the biggest problems, and at the same time you will know when to help get things out fast without reinventing the wheel each time.
• Drive frequent iteration and evolution of design solutions for current and future products
• Develops and signs-off on creative estimates and ensures creative scope, schedule and budget are accurate
• Rally cross-functional teams around common Synacor design language and put a high-impact bow around our company vision.
• Partner strategically and creatively with stakeholders, ensuring quality while delivering fast.
• Contributes to the evolution and maintenance of each creative discipline workflow.

About You

• BA required, MA preferred in Graphic / Interactive Design, Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent years of experience
• Solution-oriented and undeterred by challenges, frank with feedback but full of positive energy, and is courageous enough to say "no" and to challenge the status quo.
• Experience as a Director level authority at a growth-oriented creative or interactive company
• Comfortable with a smaller creative environment and is used to helping guide multiple projects simultaneously.
• Understand the value of executing as a team.
• Passionate about digital product design and enjoy the thrill of creating a great user experience.
• Obsessed with the details and getting things right.
• Ability to thrive in a rapid paced environment on multiple projects in a scrappy, start-up atmosphere
• Great at rallying designers to do the best work of their career
• Self-driven, fearless interest and curiosity in gadgets, inventions and world-changing leaps in technology, along with a healthy disrespect for the impossible
• Experience in designing across multiple devices, screen sizes and pixel densities
• Ability to travel to other Synacor design team office locations in Ottawa, CA and Buffalo, NY
