NYPD SCHOOL SAFETY AGENTS

School Safety Agents provide security and ensure the safety of students, faculty and visitors in the New York City Public School buildings and surrounding premises by patrolling and operating scanning equipment, verifying identity and escorting visitors and by challenging unauthorized personnel.

In addition to these four areas of management, staff support is provided by the following organizational components: Field Support Unit, Special Services Unit, Motor Pool Unit, Supply / Reproduction, Personnel Unit, Payroll Unit, SPO Processing Unit, School Safety Plan Unit, Community Outreach Unit, Operations Center / Data Unit, Training Unit, TRACK Unit, Uniformed Task Force, and nine Patrol Borough Commands.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
To qualify you MUST meet the following qualifications:
1. Candidates must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment.
2. Candidates must have a High School Diploma or GED.
3. Candidates must pass a character and background investigation.
4. Candidates must pass a drug screening.
5. Candidates must meet certain medical and psychological requirements.
6. Candidates must reside in one of the five boroughs of New York City.
7. Candidates must pay a $75.00 fee for fingerprinting as part of the investigation process.
8. Candidates must be eligible to obtain NYC Special Patrolman status upon appointment and become certified as a NYC Special Patrolman within three (3) months of appointment. Special Patrolman certification must be maintained for the duration of employment in this title.
9. Candidates must be a United States Citizen

SALARY

Salary Information as follows:
• Starting Salary: $31,259
• After one year: $32,112
• After two years: $35,323
• Differential increase for metal detector/scanner assignment.
• Longevity increase of $500 annually after 15 years of service.
• A choice of paid medical and dental plans
• Paid vacation and sick leave
• Paid night shift differential
• Overtime opportunities (Overtime is never guaranteed)

RETIREMENT BENEFITS
NYPD School Safety Agents may enroll in the 6SO-25 pension plan, or the Tier 6 Basic Plan. Participants in the 6SO-25 Plan become eligible to receive a Service Retirement Benefit upon attaining 25 or more years of Allowable Service without regard to age.
