Hiring Technical Marketing Consultant - (NYC) New York City

Distilled is looking for a technically minded marketing consultant to join its fast growing team in New York City. You must be driven and have a desire to solve some our client's most challenging technical problems centered around driving new user growth and customer acquisition. You also must have a passion for teaching others and skilled at providing clear and actionable technical recommendations to clients and colleagues alike.

About the role
Our clients need their websites to perform exceptionally well in search in order to drive significant growth in new visits and revenue. Many clients who come to us are being held back by their online platform, whether it comes down to platform limitations, less than ideal technical implementations, technical teams limited understanding of how search works, or how the search engines view what the website is serving up (both to users and bots).

It will be your job to:

Identify, assess, and prioritize a client site's technical problems

Take a test-driven approach to make recommendations for solving the problems you identify

Provide specifications for any technical recommendations or technical feature

Leading a client's in-house team to execute recommended changes

Support the quality assurance off the back of your recommendations being implemented

Reporting on the impact of your recommendations in terms of user growth and revenue.

No two clients are the same and you'll be expected to learn and adapt to the specific needs of each client. Answers will be hard to come by in SEO, and no two cases are identical. You must be great at spotting patterns, coming up with a hypothesis, devising tests, and carefully monitoring the impact of your tests. To give you a glimpse of the type of projects you'll be working on, here are a few recent scenarios that our consultants have been faced with:

A worldwide services provider who were moving to a new CMS and needed to migrate millions of pages over to the new platform while maintaining traffic levels

Websites that have tens of millions of pages who were hit by a Google Panda and Penguin update and need help with recovery

Supporting a lead-generation site set-up proper tracking and reporting between Google Adwords, Google Analytics, their marketing automation platform, and their CRM

About you
You must have 2+ years of experience with a wide range of web technologies / platforms and technical implementations at scale. In addition, you will need to come up with creative solutions that shows you think outside the box, are resourceful, and can adapt to situations where technical resources are limited.

You will have experience working with a range of teams to solve technical challenges, which have led to increases in new users and revenue. You must have experience working closely with developers, product managers, UX, and digital marketers to create technical solutions, specifications, project manage the implementation of your solution, and do quality assurance to ensure quality results.

A few specifics about what we're looking for:

Understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript

Experience in Google Analytics, Omniture/SiteCatalyst, and other analytics platforms

Strong knowledge of on-page SEO elements

Strong knowledge of how websites work both from a user's perspective and from a search agent's perspective

Understanding of how different server configurations affect website changes and performance

Experience with at least 2 different content management systems and the limitations/advantages of each

Balancing of technical SEO tasks vs. user experience

Preferred degree in Marketing, Business, or Computer Science

Bonus points for:

You would rather automate repetitive tasks by hacking together scripts than doing it manually

Experience utilizing APIs for data gathering

You can scrape data from online sources
