El Puente Taylor-Wythe Leadership Center Mentoring Program 2014 for 5th -- 7th Graders

SEEKING: Young Women's Mentor Facilitator

The El Puente Taylor-Wythe Leadership Center is an arts and enrichment program for elementary and middle school youth. Taylor Wythe Leadership Center is part of El Puente, a community organization that conducts advocacy, organizing and health & wellness activities for the community. El Puente programs focus on the integration of a community consciousness and artistic development that allows its members to experience their creative potential while learning about social responsibility.

The Young Women's Mentor/Facilitator is expected to develop a fun, engaging, educational and safe environment that will effectively provide the best experience for each member of the Young Women's Mentoring Program, including guiding participants through any issues that present themselves. Each Mentor/Facilitator will work closely with administrators and other program staff to ensure the program design is comprehensive and age-appropriate and on-schedule, members are safe, and that all administrative tasks are complete (daily attendance, progress notes, permission slips) and submitted in a timely manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Comply with El Puente policies and regulations.
• Work cooperatively with all staff.
• Provide a safe environment for student mentees while also promoting positive interaction with and among participants.
• Provide structured mentoring sessions.
• Assist in recruitment process (mentees and mentor volunteers).
• Collaborate with volunteers and staff.
• Inform the coordinator about any members who exhibit or report at-risk behavior or circumstances.
• Lead and facilitate trips with program participants; being attentive to members, assist crossing the street, assist getting on and off the train, troubleshooting problems/situations, supervise members.
• Maintain an effective system of monitoring student progress.
• Provide a system to match mentees with volunteer mentors.
• Generate a curriculum for mentoring sessions.
• Collaborate on coordinating trips with mentor coordinator.
• Support volunteer mentors with their sessions (making sure members behave and following instruc-tions. Also tend to any members who need assistance with any problem solving issues.)
• Run ice breakers & team building games.
• Must be available for most Saturdays for trips (usually morning to mid-day).
• Make sure all equipment is accounted for and put away in a organized manner.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Applicant must have a minimum of 2 year of Mentoring experience with middle school students.
• Applicants must provide two work references (name, title, organization, email/phone contact info).
• Applicant must have minimum of an Associate's Degree.


SALARY & WORK HOURS:
SALARY: $12/hour
• A total of 11 hours/week: Sept. 2014-June 2015, Mondays & Wednesdays: 5pm-8:30pm, & Fridays 5pm-9pm.
