Location: Lower East Side & East Harlem Schedule: 3 hours a day, 2 days a week
Salary: $20.00 p/ hour FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Part-time

Summary of Position
Dance Instructor
We have an exciting opportunity for an engaging, energetic and patient instructor to teach Dance to boys aged 6-20 in an East Harlem youth center. Classes should incorporate dance techniques that focus on the body, and the imagination. DANCE teacher facilitates classes that will enable middle school youth to develop their knowledge and ability in this artistic medium through proper lesson plan development, facilitation and engagement. The specialist is expected to integrate a sense of belonging and community within the group through the selection of activities that help build skills and body awareness. We are seeking a highly motivated, reliable candidate with a strong track record working with young people. The Instructor is responsible creating lesson plans each month. The product of their work will be highlighted in an end of the year showcase communicating their development in dance.

Hours: 8-10 hours a week in the Boys' Clubs from 3:50- 7:20pm. The schedule is consistent, although some flexibility may be necessary, and there may be an opportunity for additional hours in the future.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Encourage active participation and collaboration.
• Write and implement a curriculum that meets participants' interests. Adapt the curriculum and training methods to meet participants' needs and abilities, if necessary.
• Foster confidence, self-expression and creativity.
• Uphold principles of responsibility and accountability with participants.
• Work with Clubhouse and Program Development staff

Education and/or Experience
Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of relevant training; Degree or certificate in specialized area of instruction is ideal; Demonstrated leadership ability in an educational, social service and/or youth development settings; Must be able to engage young people and set structure and limits in a group setting; Demonstrated flexibility, creativity and self-assuredness.
