JOB DESCRIPTION:
Job Summary

The Gateway Freight Operations Manager directs the daily export and import operations for the International Gateways, service centers, and regional hubs. He/She has profit and loss accountabilities and manages budgets, labor planning, training, and safety while balancing cost, service, and quality. This position governs regulatory and company compliance and audits. The Gateway Freight Operations Manager evaluates and drives performance to optimize operational results. This position manages labor relations and issues. He/She builds strategic relationships with internal and external groups and customers to achieve business objectives. This position oversees supervisors and other managers within the department.

The Gateway Freight Operations Manager directs Gateway Operations (e.g., forecasting, cost management, staffing, etc.) to maximize operational efficiencies and profitability, to meet service standards, and to ensure shipments are processed in a timely manner. He/She interacts with senior management to develop operating plans and to report operating results. This position manages labor issues to comply with union requirements. The Gateway Freight Operations Manager supports business development and customer pricing to drive revenue, volume, and profit growth. He/She collaborates with cross-functional and cross-geographical groups to promote organizational synergy.

Other Duties

Manages resources and people processes (e.g., Quality Performance Review [QPR], Career Development, Training, Staffing, etc.) to ensure the day to day administration of processes and formal procedures.
Identifies individual and team skill gaps and developmental opportunities (e.g., training, special assignments, conferences, projects, etc.) to facilitate individual and team development.
Reviews operational costs and volumes to ensure alignment with budgets.
Develops metrics to measure performance.
Develops and cultivates relationships with union representatives to promote positive labor relations.
Champions high levels of service for internal and external customers to improve relations and to meet their needs.
Builds strategic relationships and negotiates with airline and trucking carriers to secure lowest service rates.
Guides policy and procedure development to maximize performance and ensure compliance.
Oversees regulatory and corporate audits (e.g., Transportation Safety Administration, Occupational Health and Safety Administration, etc.) to ensure compliance and to reduce company risks, fines, and penalties.
Monitors employee training management to ensure safety, promote optimal performance, and meet compliance requirements.
Preferred Competencies

Budget Management: Tracks expenditures against financial targets; describes impact of area's budget on organizational financial plan.
Freight Forwarding Operations Knowledge: Demonstrates a complex knowledge of intermodal transportation; considers the impact of freight forwarding operations on other parts of the business; develops solutions to improve freight forwarding operations.
Labor Relations Knowledge: Educates others on labor principles and labor contract provisions; appraises scope and/or criticality of situations; selects appropriate labor relation strategies for area of responsibility.
Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance Knowledge: Responds to compliance problems and identifies appropriate actions; identifies people needed to resolve compliance problems and collaborates to develop corrective action plans; identifies programs that reduce risk and enhance safety; explains implications to changing laws and regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree --Preferred
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a U.S. Citizen or National of the U.S., an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. for this employer
Employer will not sponsor a visa for this or future positions
Must be currently located in the same geographic location as the job or willing to relocate yourself
Must have experience negotiating with trucking carriers and international airlines
Must have experience with and knowledge of international trade lanes
OTHER CRITERIA:
