We are currently seeking a Real Estate Accountant to join our growing team. The Real Estate Accountant is responsible for applying cash, accrual and full GAAP accounting principles to prepare, analyze, maintain and deliver complete and accurate financial reports for the portfolio of Doe Fund properties. This position will work out of our Upper East Side location.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Apply cash, accrual and full GAAP accounting principles to prepare, analyze, maintain and deliver complete and accurate financial reports for the portfolio of The Doe Fund properties.


• Complete accounting transactions in preparation of financial statement packages. Generate financial packages for accuracy and comprehensive reporting. Prepare packages on a schedule to ensure timely delivery to the management teams.
• Create and post journal entries.
• Ensure that all expenses, receipts, owner's distributions, funding requests and other transactions for the accounting period have been accurately posted.
• Adhere to accounting policies and procedures to ensure internal and external reporting requirements are consistently met.
• Review and audit funding and payment requests for accuracy, documentation and authorization in accordance with established operating procedures.
• Respond to and resolve issues and requests from management team regarding various accounting issues and reports, including Profit and Loss statements.
• Research open accounting issues and recognizes potential issues and/or conflicts so corrective action can intercept and minimize issues.
• Create and review complex property budgets and forecasting for assigned property portfolios.
• Actively participate in new property transitions and audit requests.
• Communicate requests for additional services from clients and the field to senior management and understands the scope of accounting services for the properties in our portfolio.
• Participate in the completion of projects including independent preparation and review of CAM (Common Area Maintenance) reconciliations, purchase/sale proration, lease abstract analysis, property software setups, and opening/closing entry generations.
• Provide informal assistance such as technical guidance, and/or training to co-workers.
• Work collaboratively with real estate and other team members to prepare, review and analyze economic models and financial forecasts for prospective acquisition sites and existing properties.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in Accounting.
• 2-3 years of Real Estate Accounting experience, preferable in the non-profit sector.
• Ability to work independently, with little supervision.
• Knowledge of operating and capital budget concepts.
• Ability to analyze financial data and to prepare accurate reports in a timely fashion.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain detailed records.
• Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
• Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions.
• Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions.
